NASHVILLE - 1998
The Cookie Jar Show

Nashville... What a blast! I had such a good time last year that I was almost afraid to go and be disappointed. But I shouldn't have worried, there was no disappointment. There were a lot of cyber-collectors present as evidenced by the many folks who came up and said "I know you". The Mining Company's practice of having the Guide pictures on the site paid off.

A quick look at some of the jars at the show.

The Lay's Potato Jar is now on my wish list. It caused a stir at the show and no one seemed to have any information about the jar. It appears to be commercially made, but despite efforts to find out more, it's been a dead end.

THE DINNER

About two weeks before Nashville Show, I made a few preliminary phone calls to Walter Sill (show promoter) and asked about finding a place to possibly meet for dinner on Saturday night. Right about that time, Joyce Roerig called and when I asked her opinion about having a "dinner", she liked the idea and contacted Don and Norma Winton. She invited them to the Saturday Dinner and asked if they would consider being our speaker. On Saturday, Sill let me have a table to set up and take reservations, he also had an announcement made every hour about the dinner and reservations. We had the dinner at the Ramada Inn, the food was good and service was wonderful. I had to guarantee 20 folks would show up, but no more than 60, so I was a little nervous that I would be "stuck" for a few dinners -- but every chair wound up being filled!

Don and Norma spoke about their careers and inspirations for designs and work. Mike Ellis, author of The Don Winton Design Book, introduced the Wintons telling a few cute stories about his relationship with them. Thanks to Walter, Joyce and of course, Don and Norma Winton for helping make the First Collector's Dinner a reality. And of course, thanks to all of you who attended and made it more fun.
