Manufacturers spend a lot of money making sure the recipes on packages, etc
show products at their best.
The following recipes are from the Quaker Oats Cookie Jars. The newer
cookie recipe, Quaker's Best, has changed slightly from the earlier version known as "Famous Oatmeal Cookies".

Quaker Oats Jars
Mother's Oat Bread
Found on Mother's Oat Cookie Jar |
1 1/2 cups Mother Oats (uncooked)
2 tsps salt
2 cups boiling water

1 cake yeast
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup lukewarm water
5 cups flour |
Mix together Mother's Oats, salt and sugar.
Pour over 2 cups of boiling water, let stand until lukewarm.
Then add yeast which has been dissolved in 1/4 cup lukewarm water, then add 5 cups of flour.
Knead slightly, set in a warm place, let rise until light (about 2 hours). Knead
thoroughly, form into 2 loaves and put in pans. Let rise again and bake about 50 minutes. |

Prize Winning Meat Loaf
Found on the Quaker Oats "sack" jar

1 1/2 ground beef
1 cup tomato juice
3/4 cup Oats, uncooked
1 egg, beaten

1/4 cup chopped onion
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper |
Preheat oven to 350 Combine all ingredients; mix well. Press firmly into ungreased
8x4x2 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350 about 1 hour. Let stand 5 minutes before slicing.
Makes 8 servings.
