Crumbs from my jar....

Crumbs from my jar,

Because of summer vacation schedules, this week's newsletter is taking the place of two! Last Wednesday and next Wednesday are being combined. Tomorrow we're on our way to New York City for a few days and most of the family and kids are taking a short cruise on Carnival to Eastern Canada. It's been so busy around here, that just getting ready for the vacation, makes me need the vacation all the more!

eBay Live was quite the experience, it's full of folks that go for fun and hopefully to learn a thing or two. It is definitely geared to the seller, not much for the person who mostly buys, but it was still enjoyable. I had a chance to personally meet and talk with several of the category managers one-on-one, including the person in charge of the Cookie Jar/Pottery areas. And for the first time, I came away feeling that they are truly working towards solving some of the reproduction/fake issues. (I've been to two different meetings at eBay Headquarters in the past where I talked with them about this problem and both times felt like I was banging my head against the wall. Not this time!)

They feel the biggest problem is finding someone or association that will be accepted by everyone as the expert. I can certainly understand this as a problem, as I've run into it myself. There have been times when sharing doesn't appear to be an option, but that's my personal opinion. Anyway, several names were bandied about and if these work out, it should go a long way to help this problem and come up with a solution. I will be going to the another meeting at the headquarters in September and hoping that there will be some progress by that time.

until next time,
~barb

JAR LISTS

I have not forgotten about the top ten lists, just working on a few other projects. I'll be posting it by the end of the month, but it would be terrific to have a few more responses. If you've not send in your form, please feel free to do so:

BULLETIN BOARDS

If you have a few minutes, be sure to check out the bulletin boards and if you can help with an answer, it would be great. There are a few new questions, as well as requests for jars and jar lids.

COOKIE USPS STAMPS

I love the new 2005 Holiday stamps -- cookie designs! I'll have to buy a few dozen extra to use on cookie jar related mail. They won't be out until next fall, but take a look today!

JULY 14TH AUCTION
You should have gotten an email about the upcoming auction at Eldred's in the Massachusetts. Curt Blanchard has been to many of their auctions and has always enjoyed them. According to Eldred's they have a Collectible type auction every year at this time, so it might be worth thinking about next year if you're in that area of the country.

FRANKOMA RE-OPENS
Frankoma Pottery has new owners, The Merrymans and a new name, Frankoma Inc. The deal closed on July 1st and apparently the gift shop opened the next day.

DONALD DUCK S & P
I believe I mentioned this set an issue or two ago, I finally got the set and it's gorgeous. It's one of the nicest pieces yet from Disney Auctions. I like it so much, it will be one of those items I'm going to buy an extra one or two and put away for later trades, etc.

eBAY'S PROSTORES
My review on this new company from eBay is mixed, I think it could be pretty useful for those that are hesitant about opening a shop or just not sure how to do it. I also think it could be useful for the shop owner who is not getting the traffic they want. But I also feel the fees are definitely on the high side.

eBAY INTROVERTS?
I think now, most of the folks at eBay Live were certainly not introverts. Take a look at these pictures and you'll see what I mean!

PHOTO STUDIO IN-A-BOX
I found this product at eBay Live and just love it. I am not entirely sure how well it will work with a largish cookie jar, but for smaller items, this looks perfect. AND the price is certainly right.

JAY'S SALE
Apparently some folks didn't understand about Jay's Sale! The price is 40% off the price shown, that is not the sale price.

I recently re-did these pages, so check out Jimmy's Jars for sale if you are looking for something very special.
