The Crustollaphile
Vol 6 #01 Part 1
January 6, 2002

YES, Volume #6 starts this year, hard to believe it's been it was six
years ago that I started doing this. To put it in better perspective,
that was when the total number of jars showing up on eBay was less than
a dozen! Thanks to everyone for their continuing support and encouraging
notes.

Welcome to all the new subscribers, please be sure to visit The Cookie
Jar Spot to find current articles, numerous polls (vote!) and fun cookie
jar stuff. Also check out the newsletter archives -- with all the issues
from the past few years.

public. More information will be forthcoming.

TAKING DOWN THE TREES
Christmas is over and time to start packing up your valued collectibles.
It's also a good time to update any inventory listings and if you don't
have one it's time to start an inventory.

CALENDARS
For 2002 I've started the online Calendar again. Each month will have a
calendar page that can be saved online and used as wallpaper. And if you
are not too graphically challenged, you can even add your own important
dates when using it as wallpaper. It won't always be cookie jars, for
instance this month is a very unusual free-blown glass ornament -- a
snowman for all the snowman lovers. The ornament is done by the same
company that is selling the college mascot candy jars! (which are really
only a little smaller than a cookie jar)

COOKIE JAR ADVENT CALENDAR
Did you check out the Advent Calendar during the month of December? Yes,
I was a little late with the last few days, but the house was full of
folks and it was hard to even get to the computer.

One thing I would like to eventually do on the website is have as many
jars as possible shown, along with information on how it was sold and
issue price. If you can help with any of the jars on the Advent calendar
it would be a wonderful start. Please let me know if you have
information on any of the jars.

ROYAL ALBERT SANTA
A victorian look Santa is on sale on HSN.

TARGET SNOWMAN
That adorable snowman from Target is on sale for $10.50, it's cute
enough to tempt me to buy a snowman!

NORTHWOODS LOG CABIN
Another jar on sale from Target.

LENOX POPPIES BUNNY
This one is on sale at Macys.

PERSONALIZED GINGERBREAD HOUSE
Somehow I missed this before the Holidays and not sure if it's still
available.

J C PENNEYS
The url is MUCH too long to put here, but do a search on J C Penneys and
several jars will be on sale. A few Christmas jars (including a terrific
angel) and a John Deere jar.. all are half price!

ANGEL JARS
These angel jars are new to me, but I am sure not to all of you. The
three jars have a different and fun folk art look. The Pacific Products
website has been around for years and for some reason I'm always
forgetting to check out their jars. Although many of the jars can be
easily found, there is usually at least one or two jars I've not seen
before.

COOKIE JAR GIFTS
This website has some terrific hand painted jars, check out the dog and
cat jars on this site -- be sure to enlarge the Halloween Cats cookie
jar. And for you snowman lovers -- a really funny snowman that I've not
seen before from Boston Warehouse.

FUNDAMENTAL
I don't know who they have coming up with these great ideas, but they
deserve a raise. The Cop jar keeps "calling" to me, but I've resisted,
but these two latest ones -- I could not resist. Make sure to listen to
the sound.

it!!).

CAT AND JARS
Peppy O'Brien sent in this great picture of how her cat helps with the
holiday decorating.

The next week will have an article on a new inventory program I'm trying
out. It looks pretty promising and will let you know more soon.

In about ten days a trip to the Dallas Gift Market is on the agenda to
find out what's new for this next year. It'll be hard to get too
enthused when all my Christmas stuff is still up, but I'm sure there
will be a few must-haves spotted. Take a look back to what I found last
year.

- - - - - - - - - - -CHRISTMAS JARS- - - - - - - - -

I didn't get too many new jars for Christmas 2001, but wound up picking
up quite a few after the holidays. Two Radkos were found on sale for 50%
off, a Panda bear from the May Department Stores, and several jars from
Cracker Barrel were the sale finds that made it home with me. The one
jar I missed was the Jadite looking Santa from Cracker Barrel, if anyone
has an extra, please let me know.

- - - - - - - - - - WANTED- - - - - - - - - -

Let me know if you are interested or can help with any of these, I will
forward your note to the appropriate folks, please include the price and
condition of the jar.

Wanted: Either a lid or the entire jar:  Treasure Craft Winnie the Pooh
crock with Pooh chasing a bee around the jar. Finial is a honey jar.

Wanted: Cracker Barrel Jadite Santa.

- - - - - - - - - -CRUMBS FROM MY JAR- - - - - - - - - -

My New Years Resolution last year was to clean out and upgrade my
collections. I think I did a pretty good job of keeping that resolution,
although I have a lot more to do. But our annual Christmas Open house
really helped clean out the collection. I gave away between 25 -30
cookie jars!

We made it into a game, only one jar per family (hence the low number
given out). If they wanted to pick a number, they HAD to take the jar
they won and could not give it away or sell the jar AT THE party, but
they could trade. Everyone picked a number and got the corresponding jar
-- which ranged from $10. jars to a few that were valued between
$50-$75. Almost everyone took part and enjoyed it! The most fun of all
was watching some of the college age "kids", they were really into it
and tried to wheel and deal for their different jars. I know I created a
few collectors amongst them!

Why did I do it, well I really didn't want to mess with eBay and the low
selling prices, plus I wanted to share my love of jars while getting rid
of some that I didn't "need" anymore.

until next time,
bc
