This cake looks really unusual when it's sliced. Helga was a German woman I became friends with in Dallas during the
the 1960s. Everytime I think of her I remember the time I was doing a favor for her and taking about a dozen
of her dresses to the cleaners and they were stolen from my car. She did eventually forgive me. I think.

Helga's Pound Cake
|
|
|
2 1/2 sticks of oleo or butter
2 cups flour
1 TB rum
|
1 cup sugar
5 eggs
|
Cream oleo and sugar together.
Slowly add flour and rum
Add eggs, one at a time, beating really good after each egg.
Heat oven to 325
Now time to pay attention, this is a little different!
Pour a small portion of the batter into your greased and floured pan and bake that small portion until the top
is set and it starts to turn golden brown.
Pour another small portion of batter onto of the baked cake and again, bake until the top
portion is set and turns a slight golden brown.
Repeat until all the batter is used up, I've done anywhere from five to seven layers!
